I recently sold a 1,200 sq ft job to a fire and restoration company and the install was a 2 day job. They came back this morning and the customer had blue tape every where. I personally went and looked at the job and saw a micro crack in the finish on the grains of the oak where the tongue and groove meet. It is happened on about 10 to 15 boards.

The mill says the installer is using to much PSI on the compressor or has a faulty gun. They assure me they have not had a claim on over 20 truck loads sold.

I checked the PSI and he was running 90. I asked him to turn it down and he explained if you run it to low then it can damage the gun. He did it at 75 and had to counter sink nail. At 80 it went in smooth.

The installer claims there is something inherently wrong with wood and G.C. pulled boards and says they are not lining up properly.

Is there a problem with this. It looked fine to me.

Who is to blame? Should I get inspector to resolve.

Im assuming the cracks are in the but ends? If its only 10/15 boards that falls within the 5% tolerance that NOFMA/NWFA allow so just replace the boards and tell the mill to jump in a lake and find someone else who will stand behind their material. The link didnt work for me, I could tell you more if i could see the pics.

I would also guess the PSI or type of nail/staple gun was causing this to happen, I have experienced it myself. HOWEVER it occurred more where I thought the wood was more dry and brittle and didn't occur most of the time.

Might be a bunk lot of wood.
