I had ordered some new england white pine plank flooring in 5 1/8 widths. It is currently back-ordered but they offered to give me an equal square footage in 6 7/8 widths. I wasn't planning on face nailing, but would I need to face nail with something this wide - or does it matter?

Thanks!

You could glue it instead, as Carlisle recommends; An alternative to face-nailing.

Since I didn't buy it from Carlisle, I couldn't find their installation instructions. Do you mean blind nail the tongues and put glue on the bottom of each plank? Wouldn't I just be gluing the flooring to the felt paper, or would it soak through?

I did a little more research and it seems to suggest that using a Bostik adhesive is a substitute for the felt paper...and I can continue to blind nail as in a normal strip flooring application. Sound about right?

That is one way. Carlisle actually recommends using PL400 construction Adhesive ( DO NOT USE THE LATEX, WATERBASED ONE ) and apply 1/4" beads every 8" across the back of the flooring. You DO NOT use felt paper with this method. The space under the subfloor MUST BE DRY year round.

Thanks Gary. It's a finished basement below the floor. Unless it floods, I would consider it dry. Are you still a Waterlox fan for this type of flooring?

Waterlox is considered by many to be the best finish for wide plank pine floors. It will scuff more than an OMU but will be easier to repair and recoat. However, I see no reason why an OMU could not be used on a pine floor. I haved used it on fir flooring for many years with great success.
