Help. I installed the boards a little too short. The shoe molding won't cover a small gap. How do I fix it? Trim the ends of each board a little and install a small piece of board?

If you do that you will have a long joint line. Depending on gap size you mill a slightly larger shoe molding.

You can also place shims behind the base or baseshoe, and then caulk the gap between the wall and the moulding.
