Hello, Red oak being installed - at the end of the day I looked over the job and much to my surprise(to say the least) it was face nailed! I never thought to specify blind nailing. I am being told the holes will be filled and not visible when stained - which I do not believe.
There are numerous narrow gaps between strips, not gaps from the wood not being brought tightly together but more like manufacturing defects or well it does not look right to me. I am told this is usual and will also be filled, yeah right!
I have had only 1 wood floor installed so my experience is limited so your help will be greatly appreciated especially if I receive it before 8:30am CDT.

Sincerely and Thanks

m2

the installation I described in my initial post is a 12 inch border in a room which is randomly face nailed
I looked at some scrapes, one actually has bark on the bottom side! Which to me indicates NOFMA #2 common oak or maybe even a lesser grade if one exists.
How snugly should the pieces fit together? Some scrapes of bamboo I have fit together snugly with little movement -I cannot say the same about the red oak.

Your opinions please.

Thanks, m2
