Hi. My friend was a victim of lumber theft but managed to get some of the lumber back. I'd like to use his Black Cherry for flooring, molding, edge and center bead for a porch ceiling, etc. I understand there are challenges with the Cherry wood softness and UV darkening. I also have a big dog, so repairable finish is a plus.
There are 50% 8" wide 3/4" planks. My understanding so far is that I would glue and nail to subfloor. I would not stain to make future repair easier. I would use a quality oil finish of some sort so I can fix spots as I need to, however the entire floor will be distressed to accommodate the inevitable dings and scratches. Just me, the wife and the dog.
I would also like to install in a basement with humidity control. Install on a 3/4" nail base or perhaps Delta subfloor, then 3/4", then glue & nail down the Cherry?
Does a wood floor stand a chance in a bathroom? Seems that it would be pretty tough on a wood floor.
I'm thinking a kitchen with throw rugs at work areas would be OK.
Any experts see any red flags? I'd be mighty grateful for any advice.
Thanks,
Ted
