Ok, first...thanks for all the tips and helpful information on this site. I'm 1/4 the way finished with my upstairs project, but before I can complete it I have to figure out the best way to address laying the floor up to the existing marble transition into the bathroom and the landing tread in the hallway.

I've drawn up a quick picture addressing my concern. The top of the marble transition and the top of the landing trad where the balusters attach to are both 3/4" high. However, after I lay my underlayment I will be almost 1/8" higher then the transition and the landing tread.

I have thought of two ways to address this.

1) Use a flush reducer. However I don't think this will look very good with the long profile.
2) Router the end of each plank to somewhat of a bull-nose effect so that the height or the edge isn't that noticeable. There is the issue of dirt/dust getting caught in the corners, but I'm a neat freak.

I am working with prefinished hickory. I have to stain my treads and the railing so I am not concerned with staining and finishing the ends of the planks, I am more concerned with the look.

Opinions? Additional suggestions?

Thanks!

what kind of underlayment you using thats a 1/8" thick? Anyway looks like its on a upper floor where You should be able to use some aquabar instead. Its a lot thinner so the hight diffrence will be closer to a 16th. YOU could even cut the underlaymet back about about a foot from where it meets if you really want it to be flush. We dont normally see moisture migration in floors that have controlled conditioned living space underneath.

I am using a insulayment for sound dampening/absorption. It is not quite 1/8" but the issue is after laying that and then the floor on top I am slightly above the transitions.

No habla espanol.

Transitions are 3/4" high. Floor with insulayment is almost 7/8" high. If i do not round over the edge somehow the floor will sit above the transitions. No good. Either I use a reducer or router the edges of the planks that lay up to the transitions.

I was asking if anyone has experience with this and has any other solution.

Oh come on El Stehpano. English please. Having fun with that translator?

I think Kevin's suggestion is good. You'll only have a few small areas without the sound underlayment.
