We have just pickled a screened-in porch floor made of your typical new construction lumber planks (pine wood, I believe). For the pickling, we used a water-based Sherwin Williams floor paint lightly thinned with water. To create a checkerboard pattern, we applied additional layers of the paint to alternating squares. The floor has now been drying for 48 hours...and looks great. My question is: what next? Our plan is to seal it w/a water-based polyurethane sealer, but we are not sure. Are there other steps we need to take to seal the pickling? Our concern is protecting the finish and NOT having it yellow. What do you recommend in the way of sealer products? Please advise.

An acrylic poly-urethane will be the most resistant to bright light. Varathane Diamond is one type of finish that I would consider.

Bona Traffic will give you least amount of yellowing and harder finish. Note: you may get yellowing no matter what you do if it is in fact pine (which is more light sensitive and yellows more over time).

Check out this article for more info on best brands of polyurethane: http://theflooringgirl.com/hardwood-flo ... mmend.html

Thanks so much. The floor came out beautiful. If I could figure out how to upload a picture here, I would share. I ended up using a top of the line Benjamin Moore acrylic sealer. It was worth the extra money. Milky and smooth. I was able to apply it w/o pools collecting. So far, so good. We've had several hard rains and finish is holding up.
