Hello!
We have torn out glued and nailed (ring shanks!) particle board and now need to add another layer of plywood to our damaged and THIN (1/2") subfloor (70's house) prior to putting in hardwood flooring. I have a screw gun and Simpson 1 3/4" #8 Quik Drive screws provided by our contractor. I'm thinking these screws are not what I should be using because they stick down quite far under the subfloor and also am having issues with them spinning out. Could I use just normal #6 wood screws for this? They go in so much nicer. Or is there another Quik Drive screw that would work? Should I stick to 1 1/4" screws for this? The 1 3/4" seem too long.
I know I can't have screws above the level of the plywood (need to be countersunk) or I'll have problems laying the hardwood flooring and we have a TON to do, so I want to be sure we are doing this right before we get any further.
Thanks!!
