Can someone recommend the best way to remove old nail-down flooring? Can the boards be salvaged or is the T&G generally ruined? I'd like to take it to a local building-materials recycling place if I can. Thanks in advance.

Salvage will depend highly upon what type of fasteners were used to install the flooring. If the flooring was installed long ago when standard nails or finish nails were used you might be able to salvage a significant amount. However if cleats or staples were used you will not be able to salvage any usable amount.

If salvage is the goal prying with a pry bar working gently down the length of flooring will achieve reasonable success.

I use long gorilla bars. Some will get torn up at the beginning and then you will be able to salvage most if you're real careful. Unless this is an old historic floor I don't see it worth all that effort myself.

Thanks. It's fastened with cleats. It's only a small section of flooring, so it sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I appreciate the tips.
