Does it matter what part of the country you live in when choosing a hardwood floor? I live in Northwest Indiana and was wondering if it matters what type of hardwood I use with the temperature fluctuations. I don't have a preference, I just want the most durable hardwood floor I can get for the money and that I will be able to resurface when it wears down.

I am wondering the same thing as a fellow hoosier. My biggest concern when choosing a new floor for my living room is snow/water from the winter. I know growing up the floors in my parents' house needed repaired as the years went by and I assume it was from the water/snow tracked through during the winter. Maybe a certain finish can help protect against this specifically.

Don't you people have rooms you enter the house for the purpose of removing wet clothing and boots? What do they call those?
