"....and I'm not about to start hearing somebody else tell me how to do things"

That was the statement from an installer I met two months ago on a job we had some product problems with. The first pic is very fuzzy but the only one I took. Anybody care to explain why it was done this way?

Yup he sure has been doing it a long time....

I thought it was the installers responsibility to perform the final inspection on product quality?

A few more classic statements, or replies..Incidentally this is a solid product nailed and glued

Me: "I don't see any control lines, how do you measure the wrap around?"

Him: "The house is square, we measure off the plywood seams"
--------------------------------------------------------------

Me: "Why were these defective pieces installed"

Him: No reply...No, this is when I heard the 51 year story.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Me: "Why bunch up so many small pieces in one area?"

Him: "If you keep it up I'm walking outta here"

1 year experience, repeated 50 more years, does not make one a craftsman.

That first picture is very telling. And I am not talking about just the stagger either. :)

I can understand that an installer may not see a miss-milled board and nail it down. I'm sure at some point he'll notice it. But if a customer complains, you gotta fix it on your dime. Don't understand about not snapping layout lines. I have used subfloor seams to verify my control lines and to assist in layouts, but I do not use them as a chalk line. And if he has over 50 yrs. of experience, that would make him nearly 70 yrs. old. Maybe time to retire or do something else. I really try to spead out those shorts, or not even use them, or stick them in a closet or along walls or under toekicks. But I have to admit, more and more prefinished is coming with shorts. And since he's gluing and nailing, can't really do a good rack out and mix. Hafta work out of a few boxes. If it was BR-111, couldv'e been that the flooring was boxed up with shorts in one box and longer lengths in another. Bruce does this all the time. Still, no excuse.

Cant tell you how many yahoos i have had tell me that if the homeowner bought their own wood, that they get what they pay for and they arent going to pick thru any floor . " i get paid to lay floors not grade em out" I have heard quite a few times when you get into a claim. No one wants to pony up t their mistake mainly because they cut the bid so cheap its going to kill them to fix all the jacked up floor.
