So a previous customer filed a false complaint against me with the BBB. I know they have no authority to do anything. But do you think I should respond or ignore them? I'm concerned that IF I respond, the customer may attempt to use my statements against me. If I ignore them, who cares? No one consults the BBB anyway.

Speaking for myself I would confront it head on in a civil, polite and accurate manner. Although I am not a member, people do use the BBB frequently. My good reputation is where my work comes from. Like you, I do no local advertising, not even the phone book.

Call the BBB and threaten legal action, if they do not investigate the matter to it's end, before posting false information that can hurt your business.

What is happening is a form of defamation.

The BBB is just a scam. They loop you back to the business owner to resolve the conflict, where you have already tried to resolve it.

If this lady made a claim to the BBB for you threatening to file a lien and now the BBB is representing that as the claim, You will be able to get compensated for their slander in a very big way.

If you don't respond. The next time some one calls them (BBB) it will say unresoved and the BBB can't not say to any one what happen. The BBB can not get into detailes on thing.

yeah, it appears to be more of a dispute resolution. Since the customer sounds insane and my response was polite, the BBB should side with me. If not, who cares? If they post anything negative about me, I'll threaten a libel suit. Same for the woman.

I hated that BBB when I used it. Yes quite a joke but people really trust the danged thing. I think I had 3 in 36 months.
