Of all the reference I have read on floating floor installations, no one mentions wether baseboard should rest tightly on top of a WOOD floating floor, or should a small space ( credit card thick ) be provided. Please address this issue including the shoe molding. I fully understand the expansion space needed at the ends of planks, but can find no answer to my question regarding base. I have referenced Bruce installation instructions with no solution. Thanks..

A space between the bottom of the trim and the top of the floor is neither necessary nor desirable.
What is important though, is to ensure that the trim is NOT attached to the floor in any way.

Can I take that to mean the floating floor only expands in length and width, and not in height? Thanks again.

Well the factor of expansion is in all directions, but it would take a massive flood to increase the thickness of your floor to any degree.

As an example of how wood will expand when subjected to moisture, the ancient Romans. would drill holes into a marble rockface, and hammer red oak rods into the holes, then saturate these dowels with water, and Voila! a big block of the marble would be sheered off the rockface.

Under normal environmental conditions as found in homes, your floor wont expand through its thickness enough to displace your trim.

I wasn't concerned about lifting the trim, just impeding the movement if the baseboard was too tight to the floor. Thanks

What a great analogy Dennis. I'll remember that one

Pool Tables & Safes wont impede the movement of a floating floor. The baseboard is no worry, even pushed down tight.
