I went out and purchased some Home Legend solid bamboo flooring for a baby room that I'm remodeling. I went ahead and purchased a MIIIFS stapler and began the job. The manufacturer recommends to nail the first couple rows with 10D nails. After destroying several planks, I decided to buy a finish nail gun which leads to my first question:

1. For 5/8" solid bamboo flooring, which gauge finish nail gun should I purchase? 15, 16 or 18?

I also did some test shots with my new MIIIFS. More often than not, the tool was ripping off the tongue. Yes, I got some decent shots in by shimming up the gun and reducing the pressure down to 65 lbs, but:

2. Is this gun too too much for the job? If so, which tool is a better alternative?

3. Is Home Legend brand junk? Should I proceed with this job? I called Home Legend and they recommended against using fasteners and said to use glue only!?!? Yet their instructions suggest fasteners. I'm confused.

Any help appreciated. Thank you!

Justin

Your assumptions are correct, both HD and Home Legends stink.

So then, take it back? Do you suggest any alternative brands that will work with my MIIIFS?

Here is a manufacturer that has actually tested their nailers and products, then matched them up.

I use a HighPro AS-4090 and 1½" staples. I believe they are 18 gauge. The gun is sweet, once you get use to the trigger safety.

I also use a dab of PL-Premium Polyurethane adhesive and a brad nailer with 1¼-1½" brads.
