After ripping out my carpet due to hurricane damage, I would now like to install bamboo flooring. The subfloor is terazzo, but it's not in very good condition. It has gouges from the tack strip and repaired areas from previous owners.

I don't like the hollow sound floating floors make, so I would prefer the bamboo to be glued down. Can the bamboo be glued directly to the terazzo or do I need to put a plywood subfloor down first?

I would think that once your terrazzo floors are properly prepped, you should be able to glue a bamboo floor to it. The subfloor (terrazzo in your case) still needs to be flat and even and will need to be abraded to ensure the glue will adhere. I think Bostick's Best adhesive would work best. The terrazzo will also need to be tested for moisture transmission. Generally, anything above 3.5 is too high but check with the manufacterer. Since most bamboo floors come from China, find a brand that has good instructions and US reps to guide you in the install.

That's the key! Getting rid of all the waxes and who knows what else that have been used over the years is vital to success. I wouldn't be concerned about tack stirp holes in terrazzo--most are smaller than tear outs from concrete.
