Hi! I'm new here but I hope you can help me. I just had Home Legends Solid Bamboo floor installed (Home Depot). I realize that I used a cheap Bamboo but I have been having this bamboo installed one room at a time & I do love it. We are not careless and all is OK until.....I had it installed in my Living & Dining Room. My first problem....glue.....the glue came off but left spots which I was told to remove with WD40 & Magic Eraser. It took about 95% of the etching stains off. Then problem #2. We cannot walk on the floor without leaving marks......Home Legends told me to use Denatured Alcohol & distilled water to remove the greasy residue caused by the WD40. A little better but still marks where we walk, very unattractive. So......I want to use some product on my floor that might help this. But the mfg states not to use anything on the floor. I guess it's because the floor has an Aluminum Oxide finish. Can I use BONA REFRESHER since it's not a wax? I just don't want to ruin my floors completely, but yet I want to use another protectant. I cannot believe that a floor can be manufactured with no way to protect it. Please help me & I really appreciate any input.

Them leaving glue on the floor isn't your problem, tell them to rip it out and do it over.

What? I don't understand. If the glue is not the problem & the floor is properly installed what else could it be?
BTW Home Depot didn't install it for me a private installer did the work & he is very professional. I just have some spots to remove which I pretty much did. I just want to be able to use some type of protective product on it. I think it would be pretty extreme to rip it all out. Thank you.

Also if it's a mfg problem them I can take it up with Home Legends, but that's a shot in the dark. It's almost impossible for a mfg to admit & take responsibility. The problem I'm having in my kitchen & dining room (which was just installed) I don't have in the other rooms, which were installed 1+ years ago. But on those floors I did not use the WD40 so I'm thinking it's a residue from that product.

My bad, I thought HD told you to use WD-40 on it. Just my opinion that it jacked up the finish.

Oh no....the mfg told me to use WD40 & magic eraser. Then to use the Denatured alchohol with distilled water to clean off the residue. I think it's just going to have to wear off. The finish on the floor is not coming off thank God!

What kind of glue was used? It should have been a urethane glue and if it was and if it was not cleaned right away by the installer the stains may be permanent. There ae some urethane glue removers in the big box stores that might take off the marks but once they set, they usually will not come off as the urethane can etch into the finish. It is not a manufacturing problem, aluminum oxide is a tough finish that isn't easily damaged; it's most likely a messy install problem. You might try "Goof-Off", that works really well on some rubber based residue. Goof-Off will leave a residue that can be cleaned with the hardwood floor cleaner you have been using. Good luck.

Still, your doing allot of unnecessary work you as the consumer should not have to do. The installer messed up and left glue residue that etched the finish, not uncommon but avoidable. Then, the manufacturer says to put chemicals on the floor they other wise would void your finish warranty if you had decided to do that yourself. I think you have a valid claim. If you choose to let it go, it will be on your shoulders, not theirs, unless you call them all on it now. Play the waiting game if you wish, thats what they are all hoping for.

Bona's refresher product should be used with extreme caution. Its a watered down acrylic product that will look milky and cloudy if not applied to a real clean floor. I woulddt use it in my dog house. honestly its a waste of time and money and is a bear to remove once you get it down and figure out you did more harm than good. Seen many floors get sanded a little early because they homeowners just wanted to "shine it up a bit".
