Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents!

I am installing a bamboo floor over concrete slab. Here is what I was thinking:

1/2" exterior plywood glued and screwed directly onto slab, shimmed where required.
Underlayment (vapor + cushion type?)
Bamboo floor nailed or stapled into the plywood

Flooring:
Yanchi 5/16" x 3 3/4" x 37 3/4" horizontal, carbonized, dark T&G

Slab - concrete slab, relatively flat but not perfect. We live in a country where there's really no winter, and haven't had any problems with moisture underneath the tile or previous carpet.

Is 1/2" suitable for this use? Are there nails/staples that will accommodate this? I want to use 1/2" to minimize the height of the floor compared to the bathroom (existing).

Thanks for any advise!

if you want to minimize the height why not glue direct to slab?

Exactly, I would go with a 5/8 bamboo and either glue it down or float it.

I have just been reading about the glue down directly.

I have already purchased the 5/16", it was leftover from a friends project and happens to be enough for my floor.

I don't want to float it because I don't like the clicking/loose feeling underfoot. Will the 5/16" be OK to glue down directly, using one of the glue/sealers mentioned around, urethane something or others? I may have a problem finding that here. It will also then be a bit low!

Roberts 1408 seems to be what I can get here in 3 gallon sizes, $100.

Nothing wrong with Roberts 1408 for installing Bamboo.

I would not use roberts carpet seam tape let alone their wood adhesive.

But thats just me. I like to stay away from the carpet/ make any type adhesive manufacturers.

I know I dont have to tell ya Roberts doesn't make their wood glue :P But hey I understand , it's not my 1st choice. I'd rather use glue with another label on it, and a different color too  Just seems like Roberts shouldn't be playing "wood guys".

Thanks for all the help so far!

One of the perks of living on an island...don't really have much choice. Let's say it's not Roberts, but another manufacturers competing product!

Can it work for 5/16" bamboo on concrete? Or would I be better putting 1/2" ply down and then nailing/stapling to that?

Thanks!

No problem at all using that glue, it' a 100% urethane solids adhesive, dont let SP mess with you, cause he doesnt like Roberts carpet seaming tape, lol.

It looks to be a Build Direct product and I see nothing that mentions the ability to staple or nail, only gluedown, possibly because it's a strand bamboo?

yes, it looks to be similar to:
http://www.builddirect.com/Bamboo-Floor ... 52521.aspx

but its not quite as dark, same product dimensions etc though.

ok so glue it is.

so two options:

1) installing 1/2" plywood to "level" the floor and then glue over
2) float the floor using self-leveling concrete then glue directly to this using the Roberts 1408

The 9mm glued directly down would be a little low ironically.

Thanks!

remember the glue itself will raise it about another 1/8" or so.

(stupid question alert) I'm guessing there is no need for an underlayment with the glue?

Oh Howard...how you know me already. I like their new power streatcher though. I have one but it collects lots of dust..

Oh yes back to the topic. How do you plan to protect the plywood underlayment from the slabs moisture vapor emissions?
