I am applying bamboo flooring onto boiler/fired heated concrete. the glue is from the flooring manufacturer, specially designed for concrete. I does not say, however, anything about heated concrete application. my question is, how does the bamboo react to the moisture being pushed out of the concrete? and/or does the moisture emit and in so doing pop the adhesive? the 72 hour window waiting period has been acknowledged, after the concrete has been heated. I have installed bamboo, but never onto heated floor. please reply. thanks

What kind of glue and why didn't you call the manufacturer of the glue first?

Heated concrete...

The only heated concrete I have seen, was not really concrete at all. It was lightweight, or gypcrete, that was pumped in around the piping.

Yup, seen quite a few of them heated concrete slabs here. It's kind of an older type set-up and most people don't like the idea of thousands of feet of water pipe buried in their slab. For obvious reasons. How was I certain it was really concrete and not gypcrete.....I took out carpet with tackstrip nailed into it. For this job I had them turn it on up to 72F and ran my laser thermometer over the floor. You could see exactly where the pipes were, at the pipes the temp was 85, 3ft apart, inbetween the temp dropped to 75 ish.

Last one I ran into I installed a floating vinyl plank over. Talk about scary.

Hi all. thks for the input. I live way up here in Canada. when using heated lines, we put them 8" apart over the whole base, 10" concrete under including the recommended rebar. Placing a membrane under concrete, to deter moisture within the concrete. Also, lines laid as I mentioned above, with consistent concrete as below. The concrete is poured onto grade which happens to be in this place, on solid rock base. as in Canadian shield. we had to blast prior to building. the rock base is solid without pressure cracks, already tested. the heated floor is set at 20degrees C. or 68 F. almost everyone I have spoken with has told me to walk away from this project unless I can lay a subfloor as in OSB as a nailing base. Glue for this project comes with the bamboo, it is Bostik, which is recommended from manufacturer. my dilemna now is, moisture, cuz recommended moisture variance is only 3 percent. not sure.

IHO I think bamboo is a poor choice for this application in the first place. But it sounds like your have you bases covered with the slab and any MVER going on. Call the bamboo manufactuer and see what they suggest. Some don't want their bamboo installed over radient heated subfloors.

thks, Stephen. I made an error on the glue. it is Florcraft urethane wood adhesive recommended for concrete application. I was unsure, re heated floor. tht is why I posted these questions.

thanks to all for ur input. let you know how it turns out'

Hi guys, thks so much for all your input. got more info from the manufacturer and the glue company. they said it was guaranteed to work. I had a fantastic day putting down. works wonderful. I am sure it will stay, cuz I needed to pull one off after 30 min. almost had to tear the bamboo in pieces. thks.

Good luck chasing the gapping that will occur during the winter and the filler you put in the cracks during this time of consumer concerns, pushes out as summer rolls in and the floor heating is turned off.

The only solid I'd use over radiant heat, would be ΒΌ sawn Texas Mesquite, unless my client was well aware and signed off on my liability, for the movement that is sure to follow.
