Hi. I just found a great deal on bamboo flooring. Before I jump on it, I need to know if it's right for me. I live in New-Brunswick Canada wish is next door to Maine USA. My house is on a slab. I have no sub-floor or floating floor. My current floor is a laminate on a cushion floor straight on to the cement. This bamboo is a tongue-in-groove application not an engineered product. I have a few question. One can the laminate be used as a sub-floor or floating floor? and using the appropriate urethane based glue, can I just glue it straight on the cushion floor? or do I just glue it straight on the cement?

First you apply a product like Bostik's MVP, or Mapei's WFM, to the concrete using the correct notched trowel. Then using either Bostik's BST, or BEST, or Mapei's 980, or 990 adhesive to glue down the bamboo.

Um, no, you should not glue your bamboo floor to your laminate floor. Remove the laminate first, down to the concrete.

I'm thinking of using DRI Core underlayment then nailing or gluing, the jury is still out on gluing the floor onto the cement as I'm worried about the cold going through. Tks for letting me know about not gluing on the laminate, I suppose I can't nail or screw the bamboo on it as well?

Nope!

The floating laminate has to go.

laminate is now going to go. I'm told about a paint that's mildew & mold resistent. Any thoughts on applying that before anything else?

paulie

If you're looking to seal the concrete use Bostik's MVP to seal. Once you do that you can glue down after you remove the laminate and underlayment. I would defnitely seal the concrete since you don't have a moisture meter to check your moisture levels in your slab.

Once you remove the laminate, and underpad, dont forget to check the slab for flatness before doing anything else.
If your laminate performed well, the slab is probably flat, but check it anyway.
Put down a moisture barrier, such as MVP from Bostik and allow to dry. Do you have humidity controls? Bamboo has turned out to be extremely sensitive to elevated or low humidity levels so it is important to maintain humidity to as narrow a swing below and above 45% as possible.
