Hi

I have a company coming to refloor my apartment tomorrow with Teragren bamboo flooring. The product was delivered on Friday to acclimate on site for a few days.

The issue is that the boxes smell bad - it's a sort of plastic/moldy smell and it's been lingering all weekend. At first I thought it was the plastic wrap so I took it off but the smell continued. I took some planks out of a box - they have a smell but it's different and not particularly bad. I'm wondering if it's just the box or if the wood is emanating something through the box.

Has anyone else had this?

thanks,
David

Bamboo has a funky smell to begin with. And your supposed to take the bamboo out of the wrapper to acclimate. What do their instructions say?

I just recieved a shipment of their long wide plank and didn't notice any smell.

hi

I wan't instructed by the contractors (a recommended, established company that has a lot of experience with this product) to take the bamboo out, just that it would be delivered 3 days prior to install.

The main source of the smell actually seems to be the boxes themselves rather than the wood, though I guess it's possible there's some off-gassing from the wood that permeated the boxes. The wood itself has a slightly different smell from that of the boxes. I took a plank out overnight and it seemed to be less smelly this morning. Maybe it's just a "new" smell that needs time to burn off. There is nothing visible wrong with the wood, like mold or mildew.

thanks,
David

If I were you I'd review the manufactures acclimation requirements in or on the box, or online.

And no one has checked the moisture content of the bamboo with a meter? Compared it to your rh? This is where installers/contractors get in trouble.
