Attention Installers Living in the Chicagoland Area!

My name is Garth, and I work in product development for a power tool manufacturer in the Chicago, IL area.

My company is currently working on a new saw that is designed to cut hardwood flooring, engineered flooring, and laminate. The saw is a cross between a sliding miter saw and a table saw. The product weighs is less than 25 LBS.

Installers that I have already shown the product to say that it would be great for making cuts while on your knees laying flooring.

The cutting capacity is 3/4" and it will cut boards up to 8" wide on a 45 miter.

I am looking for a few individuals to test prototype samples. Once mass production starts, all product testers will all receive a saw free of charge.

My contact information is:

Funny, sounds like my sliding compound miter saw I use already. Am I missing something due to the fog?

Well the poster indicated it was a cross between a compound mitre saw and a table saw. I am trying to conjur up an image of that.

Hmmmm, well I think it looks cumbersome. Maybe the guy would like to send one up to Toronto for evaluation.

It’s not the large table / miter like what’s in the picture. The product pictured is only for the European market. Safety regulations in the United States are too stringent for something like that.

For the product I am working on, its best to think of it as a mini circular saw (uses a 4.5 inch 40 toothed carbide blade) riding on a slide miter saw rail system. The sliding unit can be locked in position enabling the user to rip a piece of flooring.

For flooring installers, we think this product is great for making quick miter cuts. It’s really small (26” x 18”) and the whole saw weighs 25 lbs. The saw could easily be used sitting on the floor while the installer is on his knees. The product will cut an 8" wide plank on a 45 miter.

One flooring installer I have been working with says that he would rather stay down on floor than getting up to cut a piece of flooring to length. He has these gigantic knee pads that run the whole length of his leg that make comfortable to work. Getting up and down is what puts the most stress on his knees.

For now, I need to keep the testing local to Chicago. The samples I have need to be checked frequently to ensure they are holding up to abuse etc. This can only be accomplished with installers local to Chicago.

As we progress in the project, we will send samples out around the country for evaluation.

Thank you for your interest and feel free to email me directly with questions /comments.

Garth

Make it a 24 volt cordless with a 7&1/4" blade and a trigger switch on the handle, built from aluminum alloys. 8)

Ahh yes, saw that when it hit the european market. You said it is a slider or not? Personally I would not buy one unless it was a slider and rotates at least one way.

Besides that I want one of those big paper cutters on steroids instead.

Yes its a slide system. It rides on a rail system just like a miter saw. The saw will make miter cuts from 0-45 and has detent stops at 0,22.5,45.

If it had dust control and a slide of more than 12 inches I would buy one.

It will slide about 14 inches, and will come with a dust bag like a miter.

There is a port a shop vac could be attached to that will improve dust collection.

I've tried hooking up my vac to the port the dust bag goes on with my miter saw I have now and it didn't work very well. Neither did my attempt at making one of my own.

Are you saying there is another port for dust control on this tool besides the one for the dust bag?
