I am halfway through installing my hardwood floor - about 1200 sqft.

I've been using #15 asphalt felt (organic) under it.

I just learned there's a #15 felt that's specially for flooring that does not contain asphalt. I am trying to figure out if there's any reason I should be concerned about using the asphalt felt. I didn't see another kind of felt at Home Depot.

Do most people use asphalt felt under their hardwood floors? Is asphalt felt the same as tar paper?

thanks!

15# asphalt paper is fine for indoor use...it's been used for decades, and is still the recommended product by every major manufacturer for use under nail/staple installations.

Yes that's where I got it.

Just the thought of using the wrong stuff after putting down about 800 sqft makes me sick.

It's good to know this stuff is ok

Hi. Not sure what you mean about rosin. I was thinking asphalt sounded like something that may not be safe indoors for health reasons. Rosin sounds more harmless but I am new at this!

If you guys say asphalt roofing paper the most commonly used paper under hardwood flooring that's a relief!
