Hi all, new guy here. I can use advice from the pros. We need to put down a kitchen floor...
The house is a 60s-era ranch on 2x8 joists. The floor was built up, as in step up into the kitchen. Top layer was parquet hardwood that was beyond help. This came up with quarter-inch underlayment and revealed the funky original sheet linoleum. This came up and because my original plan was ceramic tile the 3/4 particle board beneath also came up. I replaced the particle board with 3/4 ply and then lost my nerve. Between the flex in the flor and the thought of 2x8 joists carry all of that weight, well, I'm homesick for the look of the original and presumably lighter parquet.
So, what do the experienced hands feel about the suitability of Armstrong hardwood parquet for a kitchen? Everyone in this house seems to think that it's funny to dump water on the floor, but then the prior floor wore for what had to be 30 years.
