We purchased Armstrong Northshore oak Saddle flooring which was installed by a commercial installer (First Floors and Carpets) - the finish dulled almost immediatley (we use approved wood cleaner only) and there are several areas where the finish did not stay (most of these in non-traffic areas). We had Armstrong come out and inspect and they said the finish is ok - which is not true. We do not know what to do - Armstrong says that there is a 25 year warranty - which is a lie - they do not have any intention of honoring their warranty. Aside from warning people to never purchase Armstrong flooring - we do not know what other recourse we have. The wood flooring that we had in the house prior to this never had any of the problems of the current flooring. Any suggestions as to what we could do - the finish is off in several spots - this is not an issue of scratches and normal wear - and the finish is so dull that the floor always looks dirty. At this point - please do not ever buy Armstrong flooring! Also, if anyone has a suggestion for improving the dull and dirty looking sheen on the floor - please, by all means, give us your suggestions!

I would consider contacting a non-bias independant inspector, and having your own inspection done. Someone reputable, maybe refered by a hardwood flooring distributor in your area.

Ultimately I would say, ( without seeing the floor), it sounds like the floor will need to be sanded and refinished, hopefully at Armstrongs expense ( re-coating will not suffice with that condition). Ofcoarse when the floors sanded...there goes Armstrongs warranty. I know...your saying what warranty?

As Howard says Get your own inspector. If they find the finish is worn off insist on a replacement not a refinish that way you keep your warranty.

Great suggestions from both responses! Thank you and I do not know why I had not considered that avenue of approach much earlier!

You need someone who is not NWFA certified because they own the NWFA.

I thought Armstrong said there is nothing wrong with the floor and they won't do anything about it? So, how would an independent inspector change that, unless you are prepared to sue Armstrong?

Armstrong knows the truth. Some manufactures gotta try. You gotta show them your not bending over. Present them with the facts from a certified non bias inspector, and maybe a letter from an attorney. When they see your not going away, they give in, ( those who scream...).
