I'm considering buying the wirebrush that US Sander sells for the Hummel.. I'm wondering if anyone is doing wirebrushing to site finished floors and what you might use to make the edges consistent with the rest of the floor? Possibilities I've come across is a wirebrush buffer head made by Ceno, wirebrush attachments for a drill, or brushing the edges by hand with a wirebrush.. Can anyone offer any advice that has experience with doing this? Thanks

FG makes an edge potable wire brusher..its meant for alum oxide etc.

I personally use FA -8.clark..picked one up cheap.

distressing is an art as you know..you just need to make a consistent pallet that makes sense.

I hAve used grinders and drills on railings and stairs with great success..but this is when you really are trying to wear and dish out..

Thanks a lot for the reply. Any idea where to buy this? It looks perfect.. It doesn't look like you can buy through that site, and I googled it and didn't see much. I too thought about trying to find an FA-8 used or something but wasn't sure if it was the same type of brush, as the brush didn't look quite as fine.. The drum attachment that US Sander has is $1,000 and I bet I could find a used FA-8 for that.. So good to know it would do the trick.

Ok cool. I'll check there. Ya I found a couple places that looked like they sold them after I posted my last message. I emailed them.. Again, I appreciate the help.. Also, I'm hoping I could get you to answer one more quick question… Do you save the last screen buffing for after the wire brushing? The job I have coming up is gonna be wire brushed, fumed and finished with a gray Rubio.. So I planned to sand like normal, hard plate, wire brush, then screen, fume and finish.. I figured saving this screening could help blend everything together while not taking out the texture I put in the floor from the wire brushing.. Again, thanks for your time..

i think you're thinking too much and all good..i find myself doing just that when i am unsure or trying something new.

it might be in your interest to make a dummy test for yourself.get a few bundles..lay over a sub-system.and practice your own technique til you are satisfied and show to your client..a bug sample approved is worth whole job all day.

If you want to wire brush a floor for the purpose of distressing the wood or to open up the grain , you would normally make wire brushing the last operation.IF you screen after brushing, you will undo the wire brush work, at least partially.

Paul, Thanks for the message. I kind of wondered that.. I have been speaking with a guy in Germany about this who seems very experienced and he tells me to maroon pad after it and that is all.. I just thought the screening might help the inconsistencies between the edges and the rest of the floor.. But it makes sense.. Also, if anyone else is interested in this, this guy I have been speaking with told me about another machine for the edges, they even have a set specifically for wood, and it's half the price of the other one.. Plus you can get it in a 110 or 220.. Thanks for all the help!!
