Hey guys, wondering if anyone out there combats the grain rise in water popping by abrading prior to stain. We pop then apply stain then build up the finish and smooth it down during the in between coat abrasions. Heard of a guy that hits the floor with a maroon pad but can't remember if its prior or after staining.

Wanted to pick everyone's brain.
