I would like to know if there is a way to distress strand bamboo. It is very hard and dense. I just don't like the "sheen" that is on it, I regret not getting something with scrapes, dings, etc...I like that more rustic look. Any ideas?

I think you may need to sand it down to distress it otherwise it will look bad.

thanks...that makes sense. So, after sanding...then we (or a professional) can ding it up? Any suggestions how to ding and scratch it up? Would prefer to do it ourselves...is that a crazy idea? I guess we could do one spot and see how it looks, right? Or maybe just do our bedroom???

I have a chain with some old locks on it and some other junk attached to it. I bet that would work.

That's exactly how i have done it in the past. A chain with various bolts and keys on it . Then strike the floor with a figure 8 motion as you move down each board.

I don't have much experience with bamboo. I know with wood, a chain with various metal pieces with do a good job of scarring and aging the wood. Isn't bamboo less durable? That's why I would test out some aging treatments with some spare bamboo.

I like DanielT's advice. I also love a dirty vodka martini!

dirty martinis are the best...especially with a blue cheese stuffed olive! YUM! :D

Ok, yeah, I guess we better experiment. Oh, and I think regular bamboo is less durable...but "strand" bamboo is supposed to be *more* durable. It is VERY hard and dense. I am just not thrilled with the sheen it has on top. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions...looks like I have some experimenting to do!
