Dear hardwood gurus,
I've got 3/4" solid nail-down hardwood (Kempas) that I'm looking to install in my second-floor condo in such a way as to minimize impact noise filtering down to the unit below.
I understand that there are cork and MLV underlayment products available, but since this is nail-down, I'm afraid that they may be ineffective since I'd be puncturing the acoustic membrane. I've read that a possible solution is to install cork and then add another non-nailed-down layer of plywood on top of that, upon which I'd nail the actual hardwood. Is this or any other approach suitable to minimizing impact noise in my situation?
