Hello all,
I have a question regarding variable width reclaimed pine TG installation. We have just moved to Mid MI and I am getting ready to install our new floors. The planks have been acclimating in the house for 2 weeks, I'm just a bit confused on whether I need to make allowances for the low humidity in the house right now. My meter reads anywhere from 25-35% depending on the time of day and ambient T. I read that the RH in this part of MI can climb to 80%, and even though we will of course be running the AC I am wondering how much the planks will still swell?
Should I space the planks a sixteenth inch apart if I install now, during the lowest and coldest time of the year? Should I humidify our home to the mid-range of the RH annual range? Or am I overthinking, which I definitely tend to do.
The planks are 4-7 inches, 1 inch plywood sub-floor, 16 inch spaced floor joists. I was planning on blind nailing at 8 inch intervals and face-nailing the wider plank ends with decorative square nails. Thanks in advance for your advice.
