I got a quote from an installer in Central Florida (Summerfield, next to The Villages) to put in 1100sf of Anderson Hickory Forge engineered hardwood. The issue is they did a moisture test (not Calcium Chloride) and found 10lbs in the bedroom and 12lbs in the living room. They used a large black box with an LED read out, not sure what it's called.

They want to glue down w Taylor MS Plus 3/1. They also say they guarantee it for 25 years. I have a hard time believing that Taylor or Anderson would warranty their products with that high of a moisture level but the installer says they have installed same wood / glue combo many times with same moisture levels.

It's hard to find exact warranty wording on Taylor and Anderson sites but the Anderson install guide has a section that says "over 3lbs do NOT install".

Any thoughts? Would laminate w/ float be a better option? Does anyone have any experience with Anderson and / or Taylor MS Plus?

Thanks!
Tony

Tony, I do have experience with the Taylor MS Plus glue. Used it in my home to glue down Shaw engineered floor in my basement. I like it. I would make sure they use the trowel recommended by Taylor. If not you won't get the moisture inhibiting protection from the glue. It will use more glue with the correct trowel, but worth it for the protection.

I do lots of moisture testing and the black box thingy sounds odd. Must be a digital concrete meter. Theres the dome test(Calcium chloride) and the insitu - relative humidity test in which holes are drilled into the slab. Being digital I doubt they can come up with lbs of moisture as a calcium chloride test does. The only two tests they say is a viable test on the spec sheet is the CaCl and insitu test. Heres a link to the spec sheet, note all the qualifications ie; slab density, bond breakers and profile. If you miss one of those your done for.
