Engineered flooring is a good choice. You need to find the color that you like with the finish that you can be happy to maintain. Pre-finished flooring can be the best choice since it is already fully cured when it is installed. The drawback to most pre-finished flooring is that it has a bevel or micro-groove around each plank however if the groove is finished carefully it will be relatively easy to clean. Urethane finished flooring can be re-coated when it starts to wear, so you will only need to sand, or replace the flooring if there is a flood or other disaster. You may be able to sand and change the color once if the veneer surface is thick. Engineered holds up to changes in humidity better than solid wood flooring.
