Hello,

I'm sensitive to plastics and polyethylene. Can I use an aluminum foil vapor barrier when installing engineered wood over a concrete slab?
Would it work with either a glue-down or floating floor?

No on the foil. Are you gluing or floating? Bostik's MVP4 can be applied as a moisture barrier if you don't need a padding. Also Stauf SMP-960 is an adhesive and moisture barrier combined.

If you need a pad for floating check out the "FloorMuffler" which is non-allergenic and also a moisture vapor barrier if you tape the seams using tyvek tape. www.floormuffler.com

Why do you want a vapor barrier? Has a need for one been determined?

Thanks; I'll check out the products you suggest. I don't know yet if I'll be gluing or floating it.

No, I haven't taken up the wall-to-wall carpet yet. From all I've read on this board, and the manufacturers' instructions -- I just assumed a vapor barrier was needed in every case.

Are you saying some slabs don't need anything at all like that?
