I need some advise on how to secure the first row of a prefinished oak 3/4 " parallel to the stairs nosing in the hallway. The nosing does not have grooves. I did not want to face nail if I do not have to. Can I glue and blind nail the first row?

Thanks

Is the stair nosing already installed? Do you own a router or biscuiting tool?

No I do not own a router. That would suggest creating a groove and using a spline

You can glue and blind nail if you want to but this is a high traffic area and you will be creating a 'weak' joint between the stair nosing and first floor board which could possibly rub and squeak. Yes, a router would suggest a spline. How about renting a biscuit plate joiner and biscuiting the nosing and floor board? Also, face nailing or screwing can be very invisible if you can do a good color match on the filler.
If you are committed to gluing and blind nailing then do that and then if there are squeaks you can add face nails/screws.

Thanks for your advice. Perhaps I will face nail and try to hid them as best as I can. I am unfamiliar with the biscuit tool.

Glue it for now....if it becomes a problem later then face nail or use countersunk trim head screws. A biscuit joiner would cut a slot in the edge of both boards and a football shaped beechwood biscuit would be glued and inserted between the slots. The glue swells the biscuit to hold the boards together. Mini version of a spline....several biscuits would be used along the joint. Foolproof and easy to use...originally invented for woodworking....kind of out of vogue since pocket screw joinery has come along.
If you face nail predrill to avoid splitting the floor board.
One other thing, if you are abutting the floor board's grooved edge to the stair nosing you might want to put some wood filler in the groove....the wood above the groove is only 1/4" thick and could split if stepped on just right or face nailed though it or too close to it.
