Hi, my husband wants to refinish our hardwood floor and we need lots of advice. We have never done anything like this before. A little history first, our home is only 3 years old and we have hardwood flooring in the kitchen. Our builder only finished applying the polyurethane to the floors a few hours before the final walk-through (in the middle of the hot and humid summer) and we moved in the very next day. We didn't know any better or else we would have waited to move in after the floors cured. So, b/c we moved in before the floors we done curing, our 2 dogs scratched the floors to bits in the first few weeks we lived there. Our floors have looked terrible since day one b/c of this. We are finally tired of it and my husband plans to refinish them. We were thinking Christmas-time would be best b/c we will be able to keep the house at the right temp & humidity level but other than that we don't know where to start. Additionally, we don't know how long we need to keep ourselves and especially our dogs, off of the floor so that it can properly cure so we don't end up with the same problem. Any advice at all is much appreciate. Thanks for reading this!
Julie

We are looking to do what ever is best for our floor appearance and longevity. We were assuming that we would have to sand it and start from scratch.
