I'm laying down white oak engineered (Proverco) in my house. This is my first time doing this. I'm getting close to the end but I've reach my stair opening (going down) and I'm not really sure how to proceed.
The stair opening is about 15' and parallel to how I have the boards running.
First problem: The opening isn't exactly parallel to my boards. There's about a 1/4" difference across the 15'.
Second problem: If I put one more row of boards down and then the matching nosing (same manufacturer), I have ~1/4" extra at the top of the stairs and I'm just short at the other end of the opening (i.e: problem #1). There's no drywall yet, so I would have to account for needing another 1/2" across the opening.
Potential solution. I have 7 1/8" boards that I'm using on a different floor. I could do one entire row (~47') with this size board. I could also just use this size board along the 15' of the opening and then switch back to the 6 1/8" board (due to the layout of the room, it won't cause problems anywhere else).
I could also make my own nosing that's as wide as I need. However, what I bought would be wasted (I can't return unused items).
How do I deal with problem #1? Do I try and cut the nosing at an angle? Or do I build up the staircase opening so that it's parallel with the floor boards?
We plan to have a frameless glass standoff railing
