I recently posted a question about an improperly installed ceramic tile floor in our kitchen/breakfast area, requesting opinions on whether or not a floating hardwood floor could be installed on top. After reading the response we have decided to remove the tile and Hardy Backer - both of which were improperly installed and put in a hardwood floor.

I plan to install prefinished flooring and have two choices - Glue-down flooring or a floating floor (probably Bruce or Tarkett). Since both my wife and I are retired, I am looking for the floor that has the least chance of problems in the future. We would appreciate any suggestions, opinions, and comments.

It depends upon what your subfloor is. If it is plywood or OSB I would nail down a solid hardwood. This will last the longest since it can be refinished in the future. If you have a concrete subfloor you can glue or float. If gluing, then you will want to check the moisture levels in your concrete. You can find more threads on this site about this.
