I am installing a glue-down engineered floor over a concrete slab using Mohawk urethane adhesive. The slab previously had carpet over it, so it's pretty clean, and I'm following your advice to check the flatness of the slab with an 8' straightedge. My problem is that I'm getting the adhesive all over the slab, ahead of the actual area that I'm laying the floor in. Blobs, spatters, tracking it with my feet, you name it. I usually let it set up and scrape it off later. The end result is a very thin layer of adhesive on many areas of the slab that remains after I scrape it off, almost like I'm skim coating the slab with adhesive, but even thinner than that. Is this a problem?

Thanks,
Jim

Pop glue control lines, so you know where to stop.

No, as long as you get the blobs and back down smooth, you'll be fine.

That's good news. Can I ask you one more thing? What about latex paint on the slab from overspray when the house was built - 1991? Like the glue, it's a very thin layer, more like it's soaked into the concrete rather than sitting on top. I hit it with some 60 grit sandpaper but that didn't do much. I have an angle grinder that I've used to grind down high spots in the slab, but I hate to see all the dust if I started on the paint with a wire wheel. Thank you, Floorguy, once again for helping.

Paint is a bond breaker. Boil some water, and have your 4" razor scraper ready to go.

Mop the hot water on the paint, and then let it sit about 30 seconds, and hit it with the scraper.
