We are having a production home built. We chose to have them install Shaw Engineered Hardwood, Burnt Barnboard. We live in Florida and have a concrete slab. Yesterday they began gluing down our flooring without acclimating the wood, in a house that has no working air conditioning yet! I complained adamantly, but the building supervisor called the Shaw rep who said the floor didn't need acclimating! Interestingly, the air condition contractor showed up and began working on the air conditioner shortly thereafter. I could see all this happening from a distance since I wasn't allowed on the premises while work was going on. They assured me they wouldn't install warranted flooring if they thought they might have to remove it down the road. Do I need to be concerned? This floor is going in a very large space with halls and closets. Would appreciate any advice and things to look for if the floor should begin failing.

Ideally, acclimating should be done with any material, but some manufacturers do let it slide. I think Mannington was one of the first. Are they just trying to appease the seller due to the way things are rushed today? Who knows.

Having done about a half a million square feet of engineered glue downs in Florida in my days, I would say one in ten was acclimated. Mind you this was in my earlier days, and there wasn't a big emphasis on acclimation. But today as most consumers inspect new floors like a new car, it only makes sense.

I can't recall any issues in the past...really. It does surprise me too. The real test was a glue down in Key West. Installed in '95 during a chain of tropical storms and hurricane threats...doors wide open. I looked at it five years later and no ill effects.

Things to look for? Floor releasing from slab. Hollow spots.

He said she said. Never trust what someone else said what a rep said unless it's in writing.
Go here for the install guidelines https://shawfloors.com/flooring/hardwoo ... -barnboard

It says the HVAC should be one and a moisture test of the wood shall be performed for proper levels according to the relative humidity and temp.
