Hi,

What is the accetable gap between the strips if one is stapling with pneumatic stapler. I don't believe anyone can staple down every strips without introducing occasional gaps--except maybe for Gary, Floorguy and Ken. Is a paper thin gaps OK? I am installing 3/4" prefinished maple and I have already face nailed and blind nailed the first two rows.

Also, what is the acceptable squareness/straightness? Is 1/4" off over 18' length accetable?

Thanks in advance.

Very small, occasional gaps between boards are normal and to be expected.
They can be filled with a matching filler if they appear objectionable. If your rows of flooring are developing a bend or bow, you should attempt to straighten the rows out by slightly gapping the rows at the end that swings in over a series of courses. If you gapped each row at the end when it swings in by 1/32", then in 8 rows, you'd make up that 1/4". However, if you are referring to the walls being out of parallel with the floor and the rows are straight, then that 1/4" should not be very noticeable once the baseboards are installed.
