New here, and have a quick question. I installed 900 sq ft of 4" Hickory in my new house with the help of my father in law. We sanded, prepped, put down a coat of Duraseal, went over it with a maroon pad, and then applied a coat of Traffic. The initial coat of traffic went on thinner than suggested as we used a small pad and didn't snowplow it, but I think the floor looks good.

I am now ready to abrade again before putting the final coat of traffic down. My father in law is thinking about going over the floor lightly with a random orbital sander and fine grit paper before the final coat to smooth it just a bit more. Am I creating any issues with doing this?

Also, when I used the maroon pad I got a lot of piling in the pad and found some of that on the floor after inspecting the first coat of Traffic. We did vac and then used a damp cloth to wipe down floor before putting coat of traffic down, but apparently didn't get everything.

Abrading between coats is usually important . It helps make the floor as smooth as possible . Best way to do it is with a square buffer and 220 grit screens but you can do it by hand , with a dry wall pole sander or other machine. IF you are using a small ROS , maybe try some 150 grit papers as these will wear out very quickly.
