Hi,
Well it's fall in Toronto Canada with 50% indoor relative humidy and it's time to install. I have final questions before I start my 3/4" White Oak flooring install over 3/4" OSB flooring. There is a basement with standard 16" joint spacing.
-The indoor humidity is a high of 65% in the summer, and a low of 30% in the winter. Right now it's about 50% indoors. Is this the 'ideal' time to install? (I'm asking becuase contractors keep telling me they install all year around with no complaints).
-The flooring in the house used to have tile through most of it. It seems that the floors have already been re-enforced with screws every 6-8" or so. I'm not sure if I should be adding even more screws. NOTE: When I walk on the subfloor, it does creek and feel a bit hallow. The subfloor actually looks pretty good and visually looks like it has no big dips or defects. How should I secure the sub floor down? Will there be a difference in how the subfloor floor 'feels' after it has been screwed down?
-What types of screws should I use? I heard people meantion black drywall screws. Another mentioned wood screws.. the kind where there is no threading on the upper portion. I dont know which screws to buy and how long they should be.
-Can I use a table saw rather than a circular arm saw? I have a nice 10" Diablo blad, but I'm reading some people saying the circular saw makes things easier.. what do you recommend? Thanks for all the help!
