I have Patagonian rosewood on order which I am installing myself. I am going to a different finisher/sander than what I used on my previous floors. This guy comes highly recommended and his "method" of finishing is to apply the first and second coats of oil finish, then sand the "raised, if any grain, then apply the finish (3rd)coat.

On my other floors the other finisher always sanded the "raised hairs" between coats. Am I missing something here or is either way acceptable.

As usual, thanks in advance for your replies.

That method is commonly practiced and should pose no problems if that is his normal system. I'd let him do his job, your primary worry should be the finished product.

what kind of "oil" are you going to put down? a urathane or a tung oil? Not abrading oil modified urathane between coats makes me a bit nervous. Waterbased or tung oil go for it these are the types of finish I would chose over oil modified on that particular specie anyway.
