The red oak flooring that I recently had installed - finished with a poly -
3rd application is covered with bumps - The installer has tried 2 times to re do the 3rd application - both with bumps

My question - At this point - could he remove the 3rd application and apply the Waterlox finish

USE A 6" PAINT BRUSH AND ADD A LITTLE THINER TO THE POLY. GO OVER THE LAP SMOOTHLY A COUPLE OF TIMES. IT MIGHT REQUIRE SOME A LITTLE MORE WORK BUT THATS HOW I DO IT.

Is it trash in the finish or does it look like an orange peal? Two diffrent problems with two diffrent answers, I would give the people at waterlox a call about putting it down over oil based poly I dont think it would ever dry never have tried though.

I agree with KevinD. In order to get the right fix, you will need to know what is causing the bumps. Is it dust / dirt, drips, bubbles? Unless there is an issue with the work site that is beyong his control, it sounds like your contractor needs to clean up his act.

I also agree that you should contact Waterlox BEFORE allowing the contractor to apply it. Waterlox is a penetrating oil finish. It can be used (with care) under poly with nice results, but I've never heard of putting it on top.
