I have searched the forum for instrustions on the correct way to install the 15lb felt and found several methods. It seems that there is some discretion as to how it should go in.

1) should the felt overlap?
2) how much overlap?
3) whether or not the felt is overlapped, should I tape the seams?
4) if tape is recommended, what kind of tape should I use?

No you don't want to overlap 15lb felt, it is to thick an create a bump, no need to tape seams, just lay it down flat and install your wood.

What about stapling it? I have a hard time think punching holes in something that is supposed to be a vapor barrier is a good idea

vapor retarder!!!! Well you will be putting all sorts of holes in it when the floor is installed yes?
