I've been lurking for a bit and have narrowed my choices down for a DIY floating installation. My question is, for those of you with BR-111 engineered experience (e.g., Floorguy) how much difference is there in either installation performance or long-term performance between the BR-111 5/16" engineered and the BR-111 Triangulo product (it has a slightly thicker wear layer)? Not sure if species matters on this question, but I'm leaning towards Braz. Cherry. Bottom line is whether it's likely I would ever truly need to refinish a floor vs. screen it I think...I've never had hardwood flooring before and have no idea. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

If I had it in my house, I could tell you how it performs. I never get to see my floors later, unless a misfortunate leak or damaged board/s is involved.

It is easy to install, if you follow all the rules of the road.

I personally would never use that ultra cheap product that has a wear layer 1MM & under.

Most people won't have to refinish their floors, but the 1MM thin stuff has a cheap loook to it to go along with the price. It's sliced and not sawn cut.

Spend a few bucks more and get something with at least a 2-3mm top wear layer, and you'll be a lot happier with a nice floor. And it really doesn't cost that much more when you total up everything as an investment in your house.

Do some surfing on the net. I've found some beautiful engineered santos magogany and brazillian cherry with a thick 3-4 mm wear layer just over 4 bucks a square foot. The big chain stores want almost that for the 1mm sliced ultra cheap 5/16 BR-111 stuff.

Thanks. It's really tough to tell. I've seen the BR-111 5/16" samples at stores and they look great, but I've never seen the Triangulo (thicker).

I recently installed both tigerwood and brazilian cherry Triangulo flooring in my basement. The flooring went down nice and tight, it was a great product to work with. These were my first floors, so I don’t have much to compare it with.

If you would like I could send you some pics.

Sure - would love it if you posted the pics...here or on the other part of the board. Did you glue it down or float it? Thanks

It's floated, I was considering gluing it down, but every thing I read said it is not an easy task and that it could be a real mess to deal with.
