Okay, so I did not do enough research. That being said, I thought I could staple the 5/16" x 6-1/4" based on input from local contractor. In fact that was the method he priced. So now that the flooring is sitting in my living room and I have read the installation instructions that are in/on the carton, I find I cannot staple. Was the installer incorrect? Is it possible to staple?

For additional background, this flooring will be installed over 3/4" T&G playwood on the 1st floor, basement below, in the family, living, dining, office and foyer. The floor joists are 16" on center engineered I-beam style joists.

Must I either glue or float the floor?

Please advise,
Stokes

You should follow the manufacturers instructions if they tell you to glue it. Do they recommend a urethane adhesive?

There is a very good reason they say not to fasten it down.

Usually because it is too thin, and will pimple at the fasteners

5/16 isn't much to work with.

Glue it or float it!!!

Email BR-111 (wood@br111.com) directly and ask them if stapling will violate the warrantee on the product. If they confirm that it can be stapled print that confirmation and store it with your warrantee.

I just installed the same product under similar conditions only I floated it with a T&G glue install. It went pretty quick. By the time you get use to gluing your first 15-20 boards, you'll be able to slap down and blue tape the boards real quick. Titebond glue has a bottle cap that fits right into the groove so it goes real quick. Wiping up the excess was fast as well. (I recommend a natural sponge, since they last longer and don't break apart.) The trick is not to put too much glue in the groove... 1, its messy and 2, its hard to compress. I suppose stapling has its advantages, but gluing was easy. I love the floor... it came out beyond my expectations. Good luck.

Thank you for your input. I will look at glue down. My wife is not real fond of the hollow sound from floating.

Thank you again,
Stokes
