Hi, I am getting ready to install a 5" wide solid finished teak and am trying to decide whether or not to remove the base board trim or just 1/4 round after install. I am not really sure how I would handle some of the trim work on the doors, stairs, bathroom etc. Is it easier to remove all the base trim on the entire main floor and reinstall it or trim/cutout for the jams etc? I have linked 4 pictures if you wouldn't mind looking and giving me some feed back that would be great.

Picture C: http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r183 ... r_picC.png

Thanks for all the feedback!

with a 5 inch priduct you are going to want as much expansion space as possible, I would remove the baseboard and shoe, not only will this allow you more expansion space than removing the shoe alone, it will also raise the baseboard so they dont look dwarfed after the new flooring is installed. You may even want to cut the drywall off the bottom of the wall (just over 3/4 up from the floor).
For the door jambs and casings use an undercutter saw.

The first pic shows an existing maple floor. Is it your intent to remove this? If so, the baseboards, etc should be at the proper height already.
In other areas, removal or undercutting the baseboards will be necessary to increase the amount of expansion space available for the floor. This is in addition to adding 1/4 round or shoe mould.
Where you are meeting up to the vinyl floor, cutting the doorframes will be tricky but can easily be done with a FEIN Multi-master or Supercut saw. Since the patent has expired on this tool, many cheaper knock-offs have become available and any one of these should do the job as well.

I will be removing the vinlyn in the bathroom and kitchen so the baseboard height would be fine in those location. But from what i am reading it is recommended to remove the baseboard anyway for expansion. I didn't realize i would need that much! It seems that it may be more work but it is the right way to do it??

Another question: How do I cut the pressboard flooring out around the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom?

Thanks for the help.

Use a toekick saw. Harbor Freight has them for 60 bucks.
